Instead of turning to destructive habits like emotional eating and smoking, exercise can be the fix for a bad mood. Although it can be difficult to motivate yourself when in a bad mood, having the right activity can make all the difference. From anger to boredom, different types of exercise can produce the mood-enhancing endorphins and catharsis needed to turn that bad mood around. This method can even potentially work when combating something as serious as depression.

For example, the best solution for loneliness is a group fitness class, because of the community atmosphere. Whereas, when feeling depressed, outdoor exercise can provide healing through exposure to fresh air and sunlight. Meanwhile, mind-body exercises like yoga and Pilates, can help to resolve stress because they require focus and quiet. Ultimately, unlike overindulging, exercise rarely feels like a waste of time after the fact.
