There are more muscles in your legs than you think. Recent studies have revealed that the quadriceps contain an extra fifth muscle that was previously grouped in with the other four muscles. Previously thought to be variations of other muscles, it has recently been proven to have its own musculature and blood flow.

This study has proven that the textbooks have been incorrect up until now. It shows that clinical investigation has been proven and there are in fact five muscles in this group.

More studies show that it is fundamentally different from the other muscles in the area. The comparisons of twenty-six different specimens prove that this once believed variation is actually its own muscle. Which brings the count of that group of muscles up to five, not four.
