In a recent study published in the Journal of Manipulative and Physiological Therapeutics of people experiencing low back pain due to osteoarthritis, several treatment options were studied. Chiropractic manipulation with moist heat treatment was shown to be an effective treatment. This study was tested against simply using moist heat alone as a treatment for osteoarthritis and low back pain.
Those who received chiropractic manipulation and moist heat received multiple benefits. Benefits included less low back pain, more mobility in their back, and improvements in their activities of daily life. The group receiving only moist heat did not reap the same benefits. Patients in this study showed benefits over 20 weeks, so the results were not just short lived. The patients receiving chiropractic care also showed more rapid results than the moist heat group.
