A new study suggests that if you want to slow down the aging of not just your body, but your brain, that you should try meditation or a mindfulness-based practice. The study, done by the British Psychological Society, found that those who meditate have brains that are on average 7.5 years younger than those who don’t meditate. The oldest participants seemed to benefit most from meditation, with one BPS researcher positing that mediation helps to protect brain cells from the negative effects of aging.
While one study is not enough to draw conclusions, it is an indicator that meditation might be a good idea. Meditation has shown to benefit the body and mind in a number of ways, with this just being one of them.
